I recently picked up a 1942 hardback book for The Pick of Punch from a charity shop. It's a compilation of articles and cartoons published throughout that year. Amongst the articles is the cartoon below of Prime Minister Winston Churchill as the "Lord Warden of the Empire".
Also of interest is the dedication inside the book. "To Mr & Mrs Buttle. In sincere appreciation of much kindness and hospitality shown to me during my stay in Northampton 25.10.41—19.3.43 From Wolf Neimann" There cannot have been that many youngsters named Wolf Neimann evacuated during the war. I believe the name is Neimann but the usual spelling of that surname is Niemann.

Some reproduction (fake) shoulder title insignia for the Kent County CD Mobile Reserve appeared on eBay recently (the shoulder titles plus a fake beret badge for Region XII sold for £53 plus shipping). There are marked differences in the construction, the primary being the rear of the badges and the spaghetti of thread. The colour of the thread also appears the wrong shade (though images online can have different hues). The raised and thicker letters on the fakes are thought to occur from embroidering over paper letter templates.
Following on from a recent blog about a beret featuring a 'W' insignia (rather than the usual silver ARP badge), I was sent the image below. These badges originally came together and the air raid warden 'W' may be another example of a private purchase beret badge.
Photo of an unidentified ARP Warden in bluette overalls. Of interest is the beret insignia which appears to be a homemade letter 'W'. He also has shoulder titles on his overalls.
