I am grateful to a regular contributor to this blog for the series of armlets / armbands I'll be posting over the coming weeks. This armband features the ARP logo and 'WARDEN' lettering. The armband is similar in design to the recently blogged 'WESTMINSTER WARDEN' example. Armbands are now avidly collected by collectors of Home Front memorabilia. The letter 'V' has been picked out in red thread and · · · - (dot dot dot dash) added in Morse code for 'V' for Victory. A number of enamel and celluloid pin badges were available for sale featuring this Morse code letter. Nottingham Air Raid Warden Armband & Rank Stripes Engaged from the summer of 1942, Honorary Fire Observers (HFOs) were men with a scientific background (e.g. university professors or those working in industry) sent to major fire incidents to witness the recently organised National Fire Service (NFS) in operation. They prepared reports on how major fires developed and how they should be tackled in the future. Some HFOs gave lectures and demonstrations to NFS units.
