WW2 Ladies' Wrapover Overalls - ARP Pattern 47
While men were issued with the bluette overalls and lady wardens the ARP Pattern 42 coat, ARP telephonists and ancillary workers were issued with a wrapover overall - ARP Pattern 47.
Introduced in 1940, and made of a dark blue cotton (lesser weight than the men's bluette cotton twill overalls) to the men's overalls (or boiler suit), the wrapover overalls crossed over right to left with a strap passing through a slit in the waist and then fastened at the rear. The overalls featured a shawl collar. On the right hip was a simple open patch pocket and the cuffs with buttoned with a four-hole metal dish button. On the left side of the wrapover (when worn) was sewn the red on dark blue ARP embroidered breast badge. If also added, usually below this badge, was an area marking (see right). |
