Miscellaneous ARP Insignia
Ambulance Driver's Red Embroidered / Woven ARP Collar Lapel Insignia
The ambulance driver's coat was one of the few clothing items available before war broke out on 3 September 1939. The red "ARP" insignia sewn onto each collar was either embroidered or woven. It was denoted as ARP Pattern 51.
Civil Defence Despatch Rider Badge
Unofficial "DR" (Despatch Rider or spelt Dispatch Rider) badges featuring the winged wheel were made in various colours for members of different units. They were not an officially sanctioned badge and were a private purchase by an individual. There is photographic evidence of Messengers within the Civil Defence General Services wearing this badge on their lower left sleeve. It is assumed that the colour would follow the standard 'old gold' colour and an example exists in the National Archives.
Civil Defence Despatch Rider Shoulder Title
It is currently undetermined if this shoulder title with "DESPATCH RIDER" lettering was wartime or issued as part of the post-war Civil Defence Corps. It has the correct colour for Civil Defence.
