A most interesting pre-war (possibly 1938) catalogue of air raid and fire protection appliances and equipment has cropped up on eBay. Published by Roberts, McLean Co. Ltd it includes a vast array of items for ARP and fire services. These catalogues are extremely interesting and this one has copious illustrations. A most unique item and will be sought after by collectors. Would make a great reference source for equipment.

Miss E Earl, team leader of District 8, winners of the Fire Guard Trailer Pump Competition at the Rosie Challenge Cup for ladies, during the Borough of Epsom & Ewell's Salute the Soldier Week, 21st May 1944.
Her shoulder title "T.P. CREW" is for Trailer Pump Crew. She is wearing a Civilian Protective Helmet (aka the Zuckerman) with SFP letters and has attached a chinstrap (the helmets were supplied without a chinstrap and various types were added by wearers). The helmet has her initial "E.E" on the inside. Her overalls have the EPSOM & EWELL borough area title and a FIRE GUARD armband. I am not sure what the medals relate to, possibly previous competition wins. |
