Here's an absolutely cracking photo of two Civil Defence members (possibly at war's end). Of interest is the chap on the right and the location of his Incident Officer (I.O.) sleeve badge on the 'incorrect' arm. The official location was on the right sleeve but here we have the badge above the war service chevrons (looks like five red chevrons so backs up a possible stand down photograph). The gentleman also has two Instructor badges pinned to his collar; I have never seen that before. I cannot make out a badge on his side cap.
The first world war veteran on the left has two rank chevrons. The area title is for "Durham County".

A very interesting group of insignia and paperwork has cropped up on eBay for a member of the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service (LAAS). Badges and insignia for the LAAS are relatively scarce and this grouping includes shoulder titles, cap badge, London area marking, LCC Ambulance armband and two styles of rank chevron. The auction is gaining a lot of attention and has already passed the £200 mark.
Not many of these will have survived down the years; a Lambeth Fire Guard window display poster. Would allow people to identify the home of a Fire Guard member, possibly the party leader.
A rare Bomb Reconnaissance Officer (B.R.O.) badge is shown being worn by a member of Section D2B of St. Austell A.R.P. A few examples are known and it appears only in the south west. Thought to have been locally made and issued before the standard Bomb Reconnaissance badge was issued nationally.
I suppose it was only a matter of time, but proof has arrived that the common ARP badge (often hallmarked but also base metal versions from early war period were manufactured) are now being faked/reproduced. This example was recently sent to me from New Zealand. The badge has many of the similarities found on other fake ARP badges, especially the rear of the badge and the pin and catch. Quite why this ARP badge has been faked escapes me as it is easily obtainable and not all that expensive.
