There are a number of designs of WW2 ARP and Civil Defence signs, a number have black on yellow lettering. This black-on-yellow enamel example, measuring 9" x 9", is identical in layout to a red-on-white version (some examples also have 'Wardens' Post').
Thanks to Phil Hodges for sharing the images of the sign.

I have seen a blue version of this Air Raid Warden name plate before made by Caxton Name Plate Manufacturing Company Limited. Below is a red coloured version. Currently available on eBay.
Currently up for sale on eBay is this enamel sign. There are quite a number of designs made during the war but these yellow ones appear to be particularly scarce.
I have a keen interest in the way fonts and lettering are generated and these pages from a British Standards book in 1940 detail the exact methodology used to generate the 1940s font used on ARP / Civil Defence / Fire signage. Also included is the exact size of the various signs. I was somewhat confused why 7/8" was used instead of 1" on the Shelter 'S' signage but someone mentioned saving material (which makes sense) but it doesn't seem to follow through on vertical signs. I'm including the files as downloads as well. Courtesy of Roger Miles.
I had not seen this particular ARP Warden sign before. It's quite small, just 7.5cm across and shows age related wear to the enamel. A collector on a Facebook forum commented that he had had a similar one in his collection for 30-odd years.
